Piano Lessons for young kids, teenagers, and adults in Arlington MA.
At Mindful Music Studio we offer private piano lessons for ages 4 and up. If you don't have an instrument at home yet, we are happy to assist you in finding one. We recommend that students acquire an acoustic piano in good condition, however if you own a good quality full size electric keyboard with weighted keys, that's not a bad place to start!
Our piano instruction is tailored to the needs of each student, depending on their age, skill level, learning style, and musical goals. We strongly believe in mindfulness as the foundation for all learning.
With our guidance the student will learn piano and develop the musical skills to:
Practice on their own
Technical skills required to enjoy one’s own playing
Work on desired repertoire
A piano teacher can teach piano with or without the inclusion of classical music if the student is determined to pursue another genre. The technical skills required to play classical music will nonetheless be taught and practiced. Reading music, playing by ear, understanding the basics of music theory, as well as improvisation are all components of piano lessons.
Small children will require parental presence and involvement. The magic of transformation from a beginner to a musician happens primarily at home, as the student implements the practice tools we teach during the lessons. Our goal is to facilitate the student's curiosity while equipping them with the ability to problem solve efficiently for the most satisfying result. This is where the concept of mindfulness plays such an important role. Practicing an instrument is not just about putting in time and repetition, but rather about being able to discern what needs attention, and how to tackle it.
Learning how to read music is an essential component of piano lessons at Mindful Music Studio. Once again, we are simply the facilitators of developing the relationship with music and the instrument. Students, who don't have experience playing an instrument and reading music will quickly learn how to recognize music notation to be able to soon work on music. We want our students to be able to walk away and explore the world of music on their own, once their music reading skills are set in place. It's just like learning to read language. Once it becomes second nature, the second skill is being able to break down the material and practice efficiently.
We help you build the life-long skillset of being able to learn music on your own, connect to yourself on a deeper level, and build your confidence and creative expression.
In addition to basic and classical piano lessons, we provide jazz piano lessons at Mindful Music Studio. David Harewood is a master jazz pianist, improviser, and composer, and loves working with students of all ages, who are excited by jazz music and want to expand their improvisation vocabulary, understand jazz theory better, and learn how to incorporate and personalize their favorite jazz sounds into their own creative process.
We offer lessons that are 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes in length. If you wish to have a piano teacher come to your home, the minimum length for a lesson is 45 minutes.
