CELLO LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS, YOUNG KIDS, TEENAGERS, AND ADULTS IN ARLINGTON MA.
Typically our students start at age 5 and up. Our cello lessons are tailored to the needs of each student and their learning goals. Lessons are adapted to suit each student’s skill level, age and learning style. We strongly believe in mindfulness as the foundation for all learning.
Throughout cello instruction, students will develop the skills necessary to practice on their own and enjoy their own playing. Learning to read music enables students to work on any repertoire they desire and leads towards a level of musical independence and exploration.
Reading music, playing by ear, understanding the basics of music theory, as well as improvisation are all components of cello lessons. In order to foster curiosity and creativity, a wide range of musical styles and genres will be explored during lessons from classical and folk to early music, jazz and pop.
HOW TO LEARN THE CELLO
In the beginning lessons a lot of hands-on attention is required in order to properly set the hands and posture of cello playing. Daily practice is necessary, even if only for 10-15 minutes at first. Small children will require parental supervision and involvement.
The exciting progress a student will make transitioning from a beginner to a musician will happen at home. During cello lessons, the student will be shown the tools and strategies for practice, but only the student can implement them by actually practicing. The teacher cannot practice for you.
Our goal is to facilitate the student’s curiosity while equipping them with the ability to diagnose and problem solve efficiently, allowing them to become their own teacher. This is where the concept of mindfulness plays such an important role. Practicing an instrument is not just about putting in time and repetition, but rather about being able to discern what needs attention and how to tackle it.
LEARNING THE CELLO STARTS WITH READING MUSIC
Learning to read music is an essential component of cello lessons at Mindful Music Studio. As facilitators of the student’s relationship to music and instrument, we help students quickly learn to read and interpret musical notation.
Our goal is to enable the student to walk away with the tools needed to explore music on their own. Once reading skills are cultivated and practiced the next important step is to break down the music and practice efficiently.
THE MINDFUL MUSIC STUDIO PHILOSOPHY
We help you build the lifelong skill-set of being able to learn music on your own, connect to yourself on a deeper level and build your confidence and creative expression. You will also receive Alexander Technique instruction by a certified teacher during your lessons as needed, to aid with the general use of the body and posture.
